Stuart Wagland
Hello, I am Dr Stuart Wagland, a senior lecturer in energy and environmental chemistry at the centre for climate and environmental protection at Cranfield University. Building upon the UK’s knowledge of the potential benefits of landfill mining I have been part of the steering committee of the European Enhanced Landfill Mining Consortium (EURELCO), which has a membership of over 50 organisations from across the EU.
Following the UK’s departure from the European Union we have established the UK Enhanced Landfill Mining Network for the industry to further its knowledge of how enhanced landfill mining and recovery can support resource recovery of rare metals from historic landfill sites, boost environmental resilience and help to reclaim land for development. We are currently creating a roadmap to help us understand the process towards deploying a pilot project.
We are working with UK Government and the regulators ahead of identifying a pilot site to demonstrate our principles in collaboration with our network. To find out more, please contact us.
